9. A Voice for the
Voiceless
Eva Myers
"With a Song in My Heart"
Composed by R. Rodgers and L. Hart, 1929.
Performed at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, Palm Desert,
November 2010.
In the fall of 2010 Eva Myers
presented a solo recital to benefit
the St. Margaret's Outreach Center.
She sang a wide range of operatic
arias and art songs. Then, by way of
contrast, Eva performed "A Word on
My Ear," Flanders and Swann's
hilarious work about a singer who
has difficulty finding the correct
pitches. The photos taken during
this number show singer Eva bravely
forging ahead, accompanist Denis
trying to cope, and page-turner
Phyllis Ramsey shocked by it all.
The recording spotlights Eva's
encore, a lovely rendition of "With
a Song in My Heart." In this song,
Rodgers and Hart seem to echo the
sentiments of every singer when they
close with these lines:
"But I always knew
I would live life through,
With a song in my
heart for you."
